A Message from the PrincipalDear Parents and Families,
Governor Aram Pothier Elementary School will provide a safe and rich learning environment that challenges students to meet the highest standards in order to become independent learners as well as respectful citizens in a diverse community that respects individuality.
I hope that everyone was able to enjoy their February Vacation! Our school is very excited to roll out a new program called "Panda Pride", which embraces a strong sense of community, team building and self pride. For those who are familiar with Citizens Pride it is very similar. Incorporating this program will further bridge the gap between the two schools and make the transition for third grade students much smoother.
On Monday, February 22, 2016 we held assemblies with the students to discuss the program, expectations, and rules. Students kicked off the event on Tuesday with a Door Decorating contest to celebrate their "house" color. The "house" with the highest score earned 1 point. On Friday, students wore their "house" color to show their Panda Pride.
We are very excited to establish this program and we are very hopeful that this will be a huge success for our school community.
As a reminder, we are having Parent/Teacher Conferences on March 15, 2016 from 3pm-6pm. I welcome all parents and families to attend. It is so very important that parents and families attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what your student has accomplished in the second trimester, as well as learn what you can do to help them at home. Students love when their parents and families come to meet their teacher. They are so proud! If you need to reschedule, please contact the classroom teacher who will accommodate you. I hope to see you there!
I also welcome parents to attend our School Improvement Team and Principal Coffee Hour to discuss all the exciting things we are doing at Pothier Elementary, as well as analyzing our school data. We invite and appreciate parent feedback. We hope to see you there!
Best Wishes,
Mrs. Celeste Conti

SPEECH/LANGUAGE NEWSWhole Body Listening At Home
All of our Governor Pothier students have been working very hard to use Whole Body Listening throughout their school day. Whole Body Listening incorporates listening with your eyes looking, ears tuning into the important information, mouth quietly waiting for turns to talk, hands/feet still, body facing the speaker, brain thinking about the topic at hand and a heart caring about what the other person is saying. We are happy to announce that this can be done at home as well. To help your family to learn about whole body listening, we now have a great book in the school library that you will be able to sign out and borrow. Please visit Mrs. Phillips in the library for more details!

- At this point in the school year, what is the expected reading level? Is my child on level?
- Are my child’s math skills meeting the standards?
- What can I do, as a parent, to enhance my child’s academic progress in reading and math?
- How does my child interact socially with classmates? Does this behavior affect his/her academics?
- What do you see as my child’s strengths?
- What is the preferred way to communicate? (Email, phone calls, notes, etc., and what is a typical response time?)
Parents should also remember to:
- Bring a notebook and take notes, so that you can remember what was discussed and any important suggestions made by the teacher.
- Let the teacher know of any changes at home that could affect academics, such as the arrival of a new baby, a job loss, etc.
Finally, remember that you and your child’s teacher want the same thing—a successful and happy school year for your child!
